Vasiliy Lomachenko could potentially go head-to-head with Shakur Stevenson after his upcoming match against George Kambosos Jr, shares Bob Arum, the CEO of Top Rank.
Lomachenko, a Ukrainian boxer, is set to take on Kambosos for the IBF lightweight world title. The two were initially slated to fight for undisputed honors, but Lomachenko decided to return to Ukraine following the Russian invasion.
In his previous fight, Lomachenko faced a controversial unanimous decision loss to Devin Haney in May, while Kambosos bounced back with a victory over Maxi Hughes in July after consecutive losses to Haney.
“Kambosos is a real threat. He can bring the fight, he’s highly skilled, and Lomachenko is incredibly talented,” mentioned Arum in an interview with Sky Sports. Arum also acknowledged the influence of age in lighter weight classes compared to heavyweight divisions.
Arum expressed his admiration for Lomachenko stating, “Hopefully, Lomachenko can deliver and secure the title because there is no one I enjoy watching more than Lomachenko. He is a truly exceptional technician.”
Shakur Stevenson presently holds the WBC lightweight title, while Gervonta Davis is the WBA champion, and the IBF, WBO, and Ring titles are currently vacant.
Stevenson has established himself as one of the most talented boxers in the sport, boasting an unbeaten professional record of 21-0.
Vasiliy Lomachenko is currently unbeaten with a record of 26-0 and may have a significant fight lined up with professional boxer Lomachenko.
He is set to defend his WBC lightweight world title against Artem Harutyunyan in New Jersey on Saturday, July 6.
Promoter Arum mentioned having another skilled fighter, Shakur Stevenson, who could potentially battle Lomachenko in the future if they both win their upcoming fights.
There is anticipation surrounding the event, with Arum expressing excitement particularly for the fight taking place in Perth.
In addition to Lomachenko’s fight, the boxing calendar is packed with various notable matches including Naoya Inoue vs. Luis Nery, Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk, and other significant bouts in different locations.
Arum’s travel itinerary includes Japan, Perth, Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), England, and New York for a series of high-profile boxing events.
Upcoming matches include Lauren Price vs. Jessica McCaskill in Cardiff and Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. George Kambosos Jr in Perth, Australia.
