Back in 1961, Brian, Carl, and Dennis Wilson, joined by their cousin Mike Love and buddy Al Jardine, recorded a catchy tune called “Surfin’.” This song captured the carefree essence of 1960s Southern California with its upbeat lyrics and beautiful harmonies. Although “Surfin'” was only a moderate success, it laid the foundation for the Beach Boys’ meteoric rise. Fast forward to 1966, and the band released their groundbreaking album Pet Sounds, which is now considered a classic in the music world. Today, the Beach Boys are legends in the realm of rock music, with Brian Wilson being hailed as a musical mastermind despite his ongoing mental health battles. The 2024 documentary, The Beach Boys, delves into the band’s journey, featuring unseen footage and fresh interviews with surviving original members (Dennis passed away in 1983 and Carl in 1998). —Jack Sullivan
