Axel Foley is a dad on a mission.
Eddie Murphy collaborates with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the latest trailer for the upcoming sequel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the highly anticipated fourth installment in the Beverly Hills Cop series.
Netflix unveiled the preview on May 23, featuring a mix of comedy and action as Axel revisits his origins.
“Detective Axel Foley (Murphy, 63) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills,” as per the movie synopsis, helmed by Mark Malloy with a screenplay by Will Beall, Tom Gormican, and Kevin Etten.

“After his daughter’s life is in danger, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Gordon-Levitt, 43) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to unravel a conspiracy,” the synopsis elaborates.
Various risky scenarios are depicted in the new trailer, including a helicopter scene, a high-speed car chase – even Axel driving a snowplow.
“I’m gettin’ us some backup,” he proclaims towards the end of the trailer as several patrol cars encircle the vehicle he’s operating, likely aiding in a pursuit.
As Gordon-Levitt’s character, Detective Bobby Abbott, looks concerned from his seat, Billy greets Axel with nostalgia from the passenger side, saying, “God, I missed you, Axel.”
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F also features Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, and Kevin Bacon. The production team includes Murphy, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Chad Oman, with executive producers Ray Angelic, Charisse Hewitt-Webster, Melissa Reid, and Lorenzo Di Bonaventura.
In the original 1984 film — which propelled Murphy to global fame — the Saturday Night Live alum portrays a Detroit detective who takes matters into his own hands and heads to southern California to solve his childhood friend’s murder (James Russo). Murphy reprised the role of Axel in Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and Beverly Hills Cop III (1994).
Murphy disclosed to PEOPLE in November 2023 that filming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F was more demanding this time around, nearly three decades after the last installment. “It was a tough one,” he expressed. “I portrayed Axel Foley in my 20s. I am not in my 20s anymore.”
“It was an action film. So it was taxing. But we persevered,” Murphy added.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F arrives on Netflix on July 3.
