ARLINGTON — Special bobblehead boxes were distributed in the stands at Globe Life Field on Tuesday to celebrate Nathaniel Lowe’s first Gold Glove Award in 2023.
In the Rangers’ 7-0 victory over the Padres, Lowe showed his power by hitting two home runs in the first three innings of the game. This marked his fifth career multi-homer game, with the last one being in July 2021.
Reflecting on his performance, Lowe humorously mentioned, “I was waiting to make a defensive play but hitting two homers is super cool.”
Lowe’s second homer of the game came off a 96.5 mph pitch from Dylan Cease, marking the hardest pitch he has hit a home run off in his career. Despite some struggles this season, Lowe managed to connect well with both fastballs and offspeed pitches on Tuesday.
Manager Bruce Bochy praised Lowe’s recent form at the plate, highlighting his ability to see the ball well and adjust his timing, leading to successful hits.
Having improved his performance at the plate, Lowe has shown significant progress with more home runs in the past week than his previous 58 games combined.
By hitting two homers in the game, Lowe also tied Mitch Moreland for sixth place in Texas Rangers history for career hits as a first baseman.
When asked about his recent success, Lowe attributed it to avoiding overthinking and focusing on hitting good pitches effectively.
In addition to Lowe’s standout performance, the Rangers showcased a strong offensive display with multiple extra-base hits from various players.
