The Tour de France riders finished the final road stage of the race on Saturday’s stage 20, tackling the high mountains for the last time with a summit finish at the Col de la Couillole.
Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) clinched another victory to dominate all five high-mountain stages in this year’s race, defeating Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) in the final sprint to extend his considerable lead in the General Classification.
Pogačar crossed the finish line with a seven-second gap over Vingegaard, and with additional bonus seconds, Pogačar now leads by 5:14 over Vingegaard in second place.
Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) tried multiple times to outperform Vingegaard and close in on second place during the final climb, but Vingegaard matched his efforts each time and eventually left him behind. Evenepoel finished fourth, 53 seconds behind Pogačar and dropped 52 seconds to Vingegaard in the process.
Evenepoel remains in third place, trailing by 8:04, while fourth and fifth positions remain unchanged with João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) and Mikel Landa (Soudal-Quickstep) now trailing by 16:45 and 17:25 respectively.
Outside the top five, no other rider at the Tour is within 20 minutes of the lead. Adam Yates (UAE Team Emirates) moved ahead of Carlos Rodríguez (Ineos Grenadiers) to claim fifth place, trailing by 21:11 after Rodríguez fell behind from the main group at the beginning of the final climb.
Rodríguez now holds the seventh position, one second behind Yates. Following him, Matteo Jorgenson (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) also advanced to eighth place, trailing by 24:26. Derek Gee (Israel-Premier Tech) was one of the earlier dropouts on the Couillole, and now holds the ninth position at 24:50.
Completing the top 10 is Giulio Ciccone (Lidl-Trek), standing at 25:48, 22 seconds ahead of the 11th-placed rider Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious). The subsequent rider in the rankings is Simon Yates (Jayco-AlUla), falling behind by nine more minutes at 35:54.
The Tour de France will conclude on Sunday with a challenging 33.7km stage 21 time trial in Nice, featuring the ascents of La Turbie and the Col d’Eze along the route.
