Ian Gelder, most recognized for his portrayal of Kevan Lannister in “Game of Thrones,” has passed away at the age of 74.
Gelder’s partner, actor Ben Daniels, shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram on Tuesday.
Daniels, aged 59, disclosed that Gelder had been fighting bile duct cancer since December.
Daniels began his post with a heavy heart, announcing the passing of his beloved husband and life companion Ian Gelder. The British actor expressed that they did not anticipate Gelder’s rapid decline due to the severe illness.
“He was my absolute rock and we’d been partners for more than 30 years,” Daniels wrote. “If we weren’t together we spoke to each other everyday. He was the kindest, most generous spirited and loving human being.”
Expressing his deep loss, Daniels added about his late partner, “I honestly don’t know what I’ll do without him by my side. He was remarkable and will be so missed.”
Gelder and Daniels had been together since 1993. They first met on the set of the British play “Entertaining Mr. Sloane.”
Throughout the first six seasons of “Game of Thrones,” Gelder portrayed Kevan Lannister. Kevan was the brother of Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) and the uncle of Cersei, Jaime, and Tyrion Lannister.
Gelder commenced his acting career in the 1970s and continued until he was diagnosed with cancer.
Aside from “Game of Thrones,” he appeared in popular series such as “EastEnders,” “Doctor Who,” and “His Dark Materials.” Gelder was set to feature in the upcoming seasons of “Interview With the Vampire” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
