Aerosmith has made the difficult decision to cancel their farewell tour and have officially retired from touring.
The band released a heartfelt statement expressing their gratitude to their fans:
“Back in 1970, Aerosmith began as a spark of inspiration, which thanks to our devoted fans, our Blue Army, grew into a flame that has burned for over five decades. Whether you’ve been with us from the start or joined along the way, you have been the reason for our rock ‘n’ roll journey.
It has been our greatest honor to have our music intertwined with your lives. From clubs to massive tours, in public spectacles and intimate moments, you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives.
We have always strived to captivate you with our performances. As many of you know, Steven’s voice is a unique instrument in itself. Despite extensive efforts and the best medical care, his vocal injury has proven too challenging to fully recover from. With heavy hearts, we, as a band of brothers, have decided to step away from touring.
We are immensely thankful for all those who were eager to join us on this final journey. Our dedicated crew, outstanding team, and the countless individuals who made our achievements possible. And lastly, to you – the best fans in the world. Keep our music alive, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams a reality.”
An Overview of the Aerosmith Farewell Tour Changes
In September 2023, Aerosmith had to reschedule several dates on their farewell tour. Initially, it was revealed that Steven Tyler suffered vocal cord damage leading to subsequent bleeding. Doctors advised him to rest his voice and abstain from singing for 30 days.
Later on, Aerosmith postponed the entire farewell tour until 2024 due to complications arising from Tyler’s vocal cord injury.
The band stated, “Regrettably, Steven’s vocal injury is more severe than anticipated. Alongside vocal cord damage, he has also sustained a larynx fracture requiring ongoing care.”
They added, “He is under top medical supervision to ensure a speedy recovery. However, due to the nature of the injury, patience is crucial.”
In a personal message, Tyler expressed, “It pains me deeply to not be out there performing with Aerosmith, my brothers, and the amazing Black Crowes, entertaining the best fans in the world. I assure you, we will return at the earliest opportunity!”
