Ronaldo, who is 39 years old, rejoined Portugal’s squad recently in preparation for the upcoming Euro 2024.
According to Martínez, “There is no other player in world football who can bring what Cristiano can bring to the locker room.”
“It’s going to be his sixth European Championship. He is the only player to have played in five European Championships. We are talking about a unique feat in world football, and this experience is invaluable. Then we have the other players on the field and decisions to make. Cristiano is ready to help and give everything he can.”
Although Ronaldo did not secure any silverware this season, he set a Saudi Pro League record by scoring 35 goals for Al Nassr during his first full campaign at the club.
“I think Cristiano has delivered very consistent performances for his club, and there’s no doubt that he is an incredible finisher,” mentioned Martínez.
Portugal’s captain, Ronaldo, holds the record for the most goals scored in men’s international football with 128 goals.
The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star recently expressed his desire to maintain peak performance levels for as long as possible.
The Euro 2016 champions, Portugal, have a blend of experienced players and promising youth in their squad.
Martínez highlighted the importance of managing the experience of players like Pepe and Cristiano during the tournament to create an environment where young players feel they can contribute.
Among the rising stars in the team is Benfica‘s 19-year-old midfielder João Neves.
Neves has attracted interest from several top clubs in Europe, with Manchester United reportedly among them, following an impressive season in the Primeira Liga.
Manchester City’s midfielder Bernardo Silva acknowledged the attention Neves has garnered, praising his success last season and expressing his admiration for Neves as a player.
Silva mentioned, “He [Neves] is a player that many clubs want due to his success last season. I don’t have any ‘inside information,’ but that’s what I hear. Of course, I would like to see him by my side [at City].”
“He has to pave his own path. I don’t need to convince [Manchester City coach Pep] Guardiola, as he [Neves] impresses nearly all coaches worldwide with his work ethic.”
“If Joao continues with the energy he has shown, he will have a very promising future ahead of him.”
