A person sustained injuries by jumping from the second-floor window during a fire incident.

In Minneapolis, a person was hurt while attempting to flee a blaze at a boarded-up apartment building on Saturday morning.

The Minneapolis Fire Department reported that several individuals were present inside the building when the fire broke out, and one of them leaped from an upper-level window. Emergency responders from HCMC medically evaluated the individual, who is currently in stable condition.

Deputy Chief Rita Juran mentioned that efforts are underway to ascertain if anyone else remained inside the structure.

“There are reports suggesting there might have been others in the building, but we cannot confirm this yet. We have requested the state fire marshal’s assistance in the ongoing investigation,” Juran stated.

Michelle Davis, a neighbor of the building where the fire occurred, expressed her shock, saying, “I observed fire engulfing the first, second, and third floors through my window. I sincerely hope no one else was inside… It is a known spot where the homeless seek shelter to escape the cold.”

Authorities were alerted to a boarded-up apartment near the Leaning Tower of Pizza just before 6:15 a.m. due to reports of smoke emanating from the structure. The occupants were evacuated before the fire spread to all four floors, causing partial roof and exterior wall collapse in the alleyways.

The Minneapolis Fire Department confirmed that no other nearby buildings sustained damage.

Property records from the Minneapolis city website indicate that C David George owns the property. The city’s records show a history of 121 violations dating back to June 7, 2000.

Efforts to reach out to C David George by KARE 11 staff through email and phone, using the contact details posted on a sign at the vacant building, have been unsuccessful so far.

This story is developing, and updates will be provided as more details emerge.
