Freehill, Mercurio, Stathakis and Wilson Recognized with USILA All-America Honors by the University of Denver Athletics

The University of Denver men’s lacrosse team celebrated the achievement of four players who were selected for the 2024 USILA All-America accolades, as announced by the coaches’ associations on Thursday.

Junior defenseman Jimmy Freehill and graduate student faceoff specialist Alec Stathakis were honored with a spot on the USILA Third Team. Meanwhile, junior SSDM Casey Wilson and grad student LSM AJ Mercurio earned honorable mention.

Stathakis, named the BIG EAST Specialist of the Year, has an impressive faceoff percentage of 60.2% this season along with numerous ground ball pickups and forced turnovers. Freehill, honored as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, has showcased exceptional defensive skills with turnovers and ground ball contributions. Mercurio, with significant achievements in caused turnovers, ground balls, goals, and assists, has been a valuable asset at LSM for the team. Wilson’s performance as a short stick defensive midfielder has also been commendable with notable defensive stats and contributions to the team’s success.
