Jeremy Renner shared a chilling incident where he witnessed his eyeball after being run over by a snowplow.
The well-known actor, famous for portraying the Marvel superhero Hawkeye in multiple movies and TV series, met with the unfortunate accident on his property in Reno, Nevada, in January 2023. The mishap occurred while he was using the snowplow to assist in towing his nephew’s truck but got trapped under the vehicle’s tracks when it slid sideways.
During the distressing 911 call obtained by Business Insider, a neighbor reported, “Someone’s in front of my house on the ground. He got run over by a snowcat. He’s been crushed!” Renner had to undergo surgery for severe “blunt chest trauma.”
Despite the grave injuries, Renner bounced back and resumed his professional commitments. Within three months of the accident, he promoted his Disney+ series, “Rennervations.” In an interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer in April, he credited his recovery to his resilient mindset, inherited from his mother: “I know I’m mentally strong. I get that from my mom.”
In January 2024, a year following the accident, Renner commenced filming for “The Mayor of Kingstown” season three. During an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” he reminisced about the incident.
He shared, “I jumped back on it, or tried to, and got caught up in the tracks, and it broke 38 bones, and it was brutal, dude. It was brutal,” he said.
Further, Renner disclosed, “Half my face is metal. All the right side of my back is metal. The ribs, yeah. There was 14 breaks in the ribs. And you see your eye, with your other eye, because my eyeball was out.”
Despite the harrowing injuries, Renner opted to push the thoughts aside during the ordeal.
He explained, “So you just have weird things go through your head. It’s like, ‘Well, I guess that’s real, but I’ll worry about that later,’ he explained. And I look at my legs. They were all twisted up, and ‘I’ll worry about that later’ because I got to worry about breathing first, right?”
When asked if he panicked, Renner responded, “You can’t. You die then.”
Reflecting on his experiences, Renner mentioned that the incident has instilled a positive outlook in him. He expressed, “I won’t have a bad day for the rest of my life. It’s impossible, right?”
