MacNeil Finishes Fifth in 100-Meter Butterfly At Summer Olympics

PARIS – Maggie MacNeil, a former LSU swimmer, competed in the 100-meter butterfly final at the Summer Olympics in Paris. She secured the fifth position with a time of 56.44 on Sunday at the Paris La Defense Arena.

MacNeil, who previously won the Olympic gold in Tokyo 2021, aimed to defend her title. She qualified for the final by finishing second in preliminary heat three with a time of 57.00 and then improved her time to 56.55 in the semifinals.

MacNeil’s next event at the 2024 Paris Olympics will be the 4×100-meter medley relay. The preliminary heats for this event will commence on August 3 at 4:00 a.m. CT, and you can watch the action on NBC or stream it on the Peacock app. The women’s 4×100 medley relay final is scheduled for August 4 at 12:26 p.m. CT, and it will also be available for streaming on the Peacock app.

Another LSU representative, Brooks Curry, will participate in the 4 x 200-meter freestyle relay on July 30. The event’s preliminary heats start at 6:08 a.m. CT, with the final following on the same day at 3:01 p.m. CT.
