Chelsea’s manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has expressed frustration with persistent speculations regarding his future at the club, labeling them as “stupid rumours” that need to come to an end. However, he acknowledges uncertainty about whether he and his staff will remain at Chelsea next season.
Pochettino, aged 52, had initially signed a two-year contract with the possibility of extending it by another year upon his appointment in May last year.
Chelsea has experienced a turbulent season marked by inconsistent performances, key player injuries, and the challenges of managing a young squad.
Despite the club’s substantial investments in player acquisitions during the recent transfer windows, totaling over £1bn since the Clearlake ownership group assumed control in May 2022, Chelsea’s expectations for European football at Stamford Bridge next season are still within reach under Pochettino’s leadership.
Acknowledging the constraints imposed by injury setbacks on his squad this season, Pochettino emphasized, “It’s time to put a stop to these rumors. If I have another year on my contract and no one tells me otherwise, I assume I will continue here.”
He added, “Only if at the end of the season someone tells me ‘goodbye’… Because at this moment, we are uncertain. I assume I have another year on my contract and will stay here. Let’s put an end to these baseless rumors.”
Pochettino urged, “If you want to know if the club wants me to stay or not, ask them directly instead of spreading nonsensical claims.”
