Matthew Stafford’s wife Kelly disclosed that she chose to date the quarterback’s college back-up in order to provoke him.
The Los Angeles Rams star was a college football player for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2006 to 2008. Kelly, known as Kelly Hall at the time, was cheering for the team based in Athens around the same period.
Kelly mentioned that Stafford wanted a casual relationship with her when they were students, while she had strong feelings for him.
To upset him, she opted to date the back-up quarterback, who resided in the same dorm and had a completely different persona.
‘Our relationship wasn’t initially pleasant – I despised him, I adored him,’ Kelly shared on the Off The Vine podcast. ‘I dated the back-up (quarterback) to make him angry – and it worked.’

She remarked: ‘He was the bad boy, too. Matthew is so sweet – a southern gentleman, all that stuff. And the back-up was the complete opposite and it upset him.’
In the 2006 season, Stafford served as a freshman backing up Joe Tereshinski III before becoming the starter. Joe Cox also played quarterback for the Bulldogs that year.
Following that, in the 2007 and 2008 seasons, Stafford held the position of starting quarterback for Georgia, with Cox as his back-up.
It’s uncertain if Cox or Tereshinski are the individuals referenced by Stafford during her revealing podcast appearance.
Kelly mentioned that her new relationship led Stafford to have a conversation with her, warning her about his teammate.

Kelly shared how she and Matthew Stafford met while they were in college. She mentioned that they lived in the same dorm, which was designated for athletes. Matthew noticed Kelly’s car parked there several times, so he decided to wait for her one day and got into her car without permission, refusing to leave. Kelly found his bold move amusing, and after telling him to get out, he jokingly remarked that he wasn’t suitable for her, to which she replied defiantly.

The couple is now happily married with four daughters, and Kelly reflected on their journey from college days to Matthew’s successful NFL career. There are photos showing Matthew during his college football days at the University of Georgia and their joyous family moments together.
