HAWAII KAI, Hawaii (Island News) — Electricity has been restored to most Hawaiian Electric (HECO) customers in southeast Oahu following a major outage that left thousands without power on Tuesday.Â
At the peak, almost 20,000 HECO customers were affected by the outage. In the 9 a.m. update, HECO reported 5,270 customers were still without power. By 10 a.m., this number decreased to less than 500 customers without power.
The outage zone covered areas from the Waialae Country Club eastwards, including Aina Haina, Hawai Loa Ridge, Kalani Iki, Hawaii Kai, Kalama Valley Park, and the southern part of Waimanalo.
