Prepare in advance for downtown traffic this weekend with 2 Luke Combs shows at Alamodome, and other events

SAN ANTONIO – The City of San Antonio has urged downtown visitors to plan ahead this Friday and Saturday as several major events are scheduled, including two Luke Combs concerts at the Alamodome.

Traffic congestion may occur as Combs’ two shows on his “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old” Tour are anticipated to draw sellout crowds of over 40,000 people, as per a release from the Alamodome.

The country music star will perform on both Friday and Saturday:

  • On Friday, the North H-E-B Plaza will open for merchandise shopping, food and drinks at 3 p.m. The Alamodome doors will open at 5 p.m., with the performance commencing at 5:40 p.m. Combs will be accompanied by Cody Jinks, Charles Wesley Godwin, Hailey Whitters, and The Wilder Blue.

  • On Saturday, the Luke Combs Bootleggers Tailgate at the North H-E-B Plaza opens at 3 p.m., with doors at 5 p.m. The show kicks off at 5:40 p.m. Joining Combs will be Jordan Davis, Mitchell Tenpenny, Drew Parker, and Colby Acuff.

Elsewhere, the San Antonio Asian Festival is set for Saturday at La Villita, and the Texas Eats Food Festival will occur Saturday afternoon at Smoke BBQ on 501 E. Crockett St.

From Friday through Sunday, The Nostalgia Con will be hosted at the Henry B. González Convention Center. This event, themed around the ’90s and ’00s, will feature artists, vendors, and celebrity guests, including a reunion of the “Pokémon” anime series cast.

Additionally, on Friday and Saturday, The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio will showcase “Cinderella” at the Majestic Theatre, featuring a cast of 200 young artists from Children’s Ballet of San Antonio.

Park & Ride

VIA’s Park & Ride service will operate for the Luke Combs concert throughout the weekend, starting at 3 p.m. each day.

The service will include travel to and from the Crossroads Park & Ride at 151 Crossroads Blvd. and Randolph Transit Center at 400 I-35 North.

Roundtrip fare is $2.60, or $1.30 per direction. Discounts are offered for children aged 5-13, seniors, military personnel, Medicare recipients, individuals with disabilities, and students with valid IDs. Children under 4 ride free when accompanied by an adult.

Street closures

If planning to park west of Interstate 37 and walk to the Alamodome, note a significant street closure.

The northbound lanes of South Alamo Street between Market Street and Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard are presently closed, with limited pedestrian access at the Alamo and Chavez intersection.

Motorists needing to travel north can take westbound Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard to northbound St. Mary’s or Presa streets, then proceed to Market Street.

  • The parking options for downtown San Antonio this weekend include the Martinez Lot at S. Alamo and Martinez streets, S. Alamo Lot at 418 S. Alamo St, Cesar Chavez GSA Lot at 700 E. Cesar Chavez Blvd (not available on May 11), Houston/Nolan Lot at E. Houston and Elm streets, and City Tower Garage at 100 N. Main Ave.
