Rivian recently introduced updated versions of its R1S and R1T models, with significant improvements hidden beneath subtle design changes. The company has assured existing owners that many of these new features will also be made available to them through future software updates.
Rivian has often been compared to Tesla due to its approach to manufacturing electric vehicles. Despite encountering challenges, such as building a new factory before fully optimizing production at its existing facility, Rivian has been recognized for its strong engineering and technology, placing the R1T and R1S as formidable competitors in the electric vehicle market.
To enhance cost efficiency, Rivian has re-engineered its current vehicle lineup by making its own parts and securing better rates from suppliers as production numbers increased. The updated R1 models have undergone significant internal improvements, ranging from motors and batteries to electronics and software.
Existing Rivian owners will benefit from software updates that bring new features similar to those found in the refreshed models. While hardware components like high-resolution cameras won’t be retrofitted, improvements like a new wireless charger replacement and better suspension systems are on the horizon.
Although older models may not support advanced features like Lane Change on Demand available in the latest vehicles, existing owners can look forward to enhancements such as new visual interfaces, live camera views for blind spot monitoring, and tri-zone climate control. These updates, coupled with additions like Launch Mode for Quad-Motor models and Dolby Atmos support in the infotainment system, aim to bridge the gap between older and newer Rivian models.
The 2024.19 software update, expected in June, will bring various improvements to existing R1 vehicles, including safety enhancements, comfort upgrades, and entertainment features. While some advanced functionalities may not be accessible on older models, Rivian’s commitment to providing ongoing updates ensures that all owners can enjoy the latest innovations.
