Sources: Warriors giving Hield $21M guaranteed

SAN FRANCISCO — Buddy Hield is set to join the Golden State Warriors through a sign-and-trade agreement with the Philadelphia 76ers, guaranteeing him a total of $21 million over two years, sources informed ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday.

In the deal, Hield will receive $18 million in the initial two years and an additional $3 million with a partial guarantee for the 2026-27 season, along with a player option for an unsecured fourth year, as per sources.

As part of the deal, Golden State will send a 2031 second-round pick it acquired from the Dallas Mavericks in the sign-and-trade involving Klay Thompson.

Pairing up Hield with Stephen Curry will give the Warriors a formidable duo, both ranking as the top two 3-point shooters over the last five seasons. Hield boasts a 40% success rate from beyond the arc throughout his career.

Hield’s acquisition is part of the Warriors’ strategy to fill the void left by Thompson’s departure to Dallas after 12 seasons with Golden State. Additionally, the team has secured signings of De’Anthony Melton and Kyle Anderson, offering versatility on both offense and defense.

During the previous season, Hield played an NBA-high 84 regular-season games for the 76ers and the Indiana Pacers, averaging 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 25.7 minutes per game. Despite his solid regular-season performance, Hield encountered shooting woes in the playoffs, except for a standout game where he made six 3-pointers during the 76ers’ playoff exit against the New York Knicks in Game 6.
