THE BRONX (WABC) — A police-involved shooting occurred Saturday night following a car chase that crossed two boroughs.
The shooting took place in the Grand Concourse section at 161 Street and Summit Avenue but originated from a report of a car break-in in Manhattan.
Police were initially called to 149 Street and Convent Avenue in Hamilton Heights to investigate the car break-in.
While at the scene, officers noticed a car driving recklessly nearby.
A pursuit ensued, ending in the Bronx where one person from the car was arrested.
Another suspect fled into a marshy area near the Major Deegan Expressway. Shortly after, the suspect brandished a weapon at the police.
According to NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell, officers from the 3-0 Precinct engaged in a gunfire exchange with the suspect. The suspect was shot in the head and leg and is currently in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
