The Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas is set to close this summer on July 17, making way for a new 700-foot guitar-shaped Hard Rock hotel. This iconic tropical-themed hotel, known for its volcano shows and lucky casino floor, has been a landmark on the Las Vegas Strip since it was opened by Steve Wynn’s Golden Nugget Corp. in 1989.
With over 3,000 rooms, The Mirage Hotel played a significant role in popularizing the megaresort trend in Las Vegas. It hosted famous entertainment acts like Siegfried and Roy’s tiger shows and The Beatles’ “Love” Cirque du Soleil show. The hotel was also recognized as the “luckiest casino” in Las Vegas in a recent survey by Casino.org.
The property will be demolished after its closure and replaced with the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas, providing 2,500 construction jobs over the next three years. The new integrated resort will feature a guitar-shaped hotel that will add to the vibrant Las Vegas skyline.
Hard Rock International plans to pay $80 million in severance packages to Mirage employees and offer a “service recognition bonus” for workers who choose to return when the hotel reopens. The last day for hotel occupancy at The Mirage will be on July 14, 2024, and guests with reservations beyond that date will be issued refunds.
The transformation of The Mirage into the Hard Rock Las Vegas will mark the end of an era for this well-known hotel and pave the way for a new chapter in Las Vegas hospitality and entertainment.
