Boston Calling festival starts this Friday, featuring a performance by the Wolff Sisters, three siblings from Canton known for their Americana music steeped in the essence of Massachusetts.
Rebecca, Rachael, and Kat Wolff grew up in a Victorian home filled with art and musical instruments. Surrounded by a sunlit harpsichord and a Cable Nelson player piano, they developed a passion for music at a young age.
Rachael reminisced about discovering her love for music after hearing Jimmy Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” at the age of 8, leading their father to buy them a family guitar. Inspired by her sister, Rebecca also took up the guitar.
Raised in a household filled with music, the Wolff Sisters were exposed to a diverse range of artists from Santana to Alanis Morissette. Their parents often hosted jam sessions, encouraging the girls to join in and learn from their musician friends.
At a young age, Kat taught herself to play the piano, and the sisters eventually formed a band after Kat came up with a chord progression that inspired their first song, “Down By The Lake.”
Their music often draws inspiration from water-related themes, evoking memories of summers spent by the lake. Their song “Roll Me Mama” explores the concept of water as both a source of life and a force of nature.
The Wolff Sisters’ latest single, “Hurricane,” captures the essence of a New England storm, blending each sister’s musical strengths into a powerful tribute to their coastal roots.
Rachael’s song “Boston Town” pays homage to their Boston roots and dreams of it becoming an anthem for the city, envisioning it being played at Fenway Park in the future.
Excited about their performance at Boston Calling, the Wolff Sisters are looking forward to sharing their music with a larger audience, including their proud parents.
The Wolff Sisters will be performing at Boston Calling’s Orange Stage on Friday, May 24 at 2:50 p.m.
