In Thomaston, Georgia, police are conducting an investigation following the theft of two Ford Mustang cars worth nearly $200,000 from the Southern Ford of Thomaston dealership.
The stolen vehicles include a Ford Mustang GT500 Heritage and a blue Ford Mustang GT500, both taken overnight on a Friday.
General Manager Chip Richardson expressed the uniqueness of the stolen cars, particularly highlighting the Heritage variant as a numbered vehicle with a production of less than a thousand units, all of which were certified.
According to Thomaston Police, the thieves not only took the vehicles but also confiscated keys to a majority of the cars on the lot after breaking into the showroom.
Chief Mike Richardson suggested that the theft was likely targeted, indicating that the perpetrators were knowledgeable about what they were looking for. He also speculated that the stolen cars were unlikely to be dismantled for parts but rather being moved elsewhere.
The thieves disabled the security cameras on the premises to avoid detection, as reported by the police.
The incident has left the dealership staff deeply disheartened, especially given the usually peaceful nature of the small country town.
Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact Thomaston Police, with a $1,000 reward being offered for tips that lead to an arrest.
