Chief Terrence Green wants to inform the Town of Lexington residents about the road closures and detours happening during the Town of Lexington Christmas Parade in downtown Lexington on Sunday, Dec. 4 afternoon.

The road closures and detours will start at 1:00 p.m. with the closing of West Butler Street, from Columbia Avenue to North Church Street.

Additional closures will affect Haygood Avenue and part of Meetze Street to allow parade participants to organize and get their floats ready.

The parking lot of the Lexington County Extension Office at 605 West Main Street will also be closed for the day for float setup and staging purposes.

The Christmas Parade will follow the route from Haygood Avenue to West Main Street/US-1 and then to North Lake Drive/SC-6. The prime viewing spots for the parade will be along West Main Street from Haygood Avenue to the Main Street and Lake Drive intersection.

In preparation for the 3:00 p.m. start of the Christmas Parade, West Main Street (from Columbia Avenue to North Lake Drive), East Main Street at Harmon Street, North Lake Drive at Dreher Street, and South Lake Drive at Fort Street will be closed at 2:45 p.m. Traffic will be redirected around the parade route until the event finishes.

The main detours are expected to reopen around 4:30 p.m. West Butler Street (from Columbia Avenue to South Church Street) will remain closed until all parade floats and participants have cleared the road.

It is recommended for attendees to arrive early to secure a parking spot and seating along the parade route as this is a popular event. Event-goers should park in public parking lots near the area to avoid potential towing from private business parking lots at the owner’s expense.
